OCSC David “Doc” Fey Memorial Scholarships
(2) $10,000 Scholarships
These 2 $10,000 scholarships are in memory of David “Doc” Fey. David was an avid surfer and waterman here on the Eastern Shore of Maryland
David “Doc” Fey was born September 27, 1952 at the beach in Haleiwa, Hawaii and was the youngest of his two “Navy brat” siblings. David lived most of his childhood in Bethesda, Maryland where he attended Walt Whitman High School, but his lifelong pull was to the water and most of his adult life was spent living in Ocean City throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s. He was an accomplished waterman; surfing and fishing were his year-round passions, and the sport helped fuel a wanderlust of travel that took him to many exotic locations around the world.
David was a skilled seafood chef and worked at some of the beach’s finest restaurants during the season, while working in the long-line fishing industry during the off seasons. He had a trove of Eastern Shore-inspired recipes that he both created and collected. His life-long friendships were meticulously fostered, and he had a head full of life’s funny anecdotes such that you always left David full of food and full of heart. As a discerning audiophile and vinyl record collector, David’s life was fueled by a sophisticated / multi-genre playlist of jazz fusion to classic rockn’ roll and everything in between. He was known to his friends as “The Doctor” for his smooth and refined dance moves!
In Ocean City, and with the multitude of lifelong friends he made along the way, David was shaped into the person who “would give you the shirt off his back” and who, in the face of diversity was always the most positive person in the room. We have established the David “Doc” Fey scholarship to honor his impactful legacy of love, passion, giving, and of course the water where he, like many of us, find so much solace. We can think of no better way to honor David’s legacy than to help the youth of Worchester County through the gift of education!
Respectfully,
Chris Freeman (nephew) & Scott Fey (brother)
